12 June 2019

On June 12th the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club (CBGC) met at the Indian Creek Country Club to socialize, to present awards, and install their new officers. Members arrived before lunch to meet up with new and old friends. The 2018-2019 Scrapbook, created by Roz Messing, was circulated among members.

After mingling with each other, Cindy Boyce said a lovely prayer. Then a delicious lunch was served to thirty-seven members.

Following lunch, Helen Bell began the meeting announcing that the club received a Blue Ribbon at the National Convention for the Preservation Work at Historic Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville. Vicky Bowen, Helen Bell, Anne Crawley, Rebecca Elston, Kathie Truxall, and Alice Stieve were recognized for their hard work. Patsy Sylvia was presented for her outstanding service to CBGC with a special National Garden Club Certificate of Recognition. Debbie Boze was awarded a Life Membership for her outstanding service.

Horticulture and Floral Design Awards were presented to members of the club. Sue Moore (3rd place), Sharon Stieber (2nd place), and Helen Bell (1st place) earned top honors in the Horticulture division. In Floral Design the top recipients are Patsy Sylvia (3rd place), Kathie Truxall (2nd place) and Sharon Lemke (1st place).

The meeting concluded with Rebecca Elston presiding over the installation of officers. Kathie Truxall will be the president of the club. Wonda Allain and Helen Bell will serve as first and second vice presidents. The treasurer position will be held by Debbie Boze with Sandra Ehlert as assistant treasurer. Sharon Lemke and Sue Moore will be sharing the recording secretary position. Finally, Anne Haynie will serve as the corresponding secretary. Each officer will hold that position for two years.
