Art & Flowers at RAL

5-6 April 2019

On April 5th and 6th, the Rappahannock Art League (RAL) of Kilmarnock had an art show entitled Art and Flowers. The show took place at 19 N. Main Street at the Rappahannock Art League Studio Gallery in Kilmarnock. Members of Rappahannock Garden Club, Kilmarnock Garden Club, the Northern Neck Garden Club, and the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club (CBGC) exhibited flower designs that were interpretations of various pieces of art. This event is similar to the Fine Arts and Flowers that is held in Richmond at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

CBGC had four members that participated in this community event. Carol Medlin created a mass design of warm colors, and Sharon Stieber’s design was a cascade of red roses. The black and silver luminary design with allium created by Kathie Truxall, was an interpretation of a black and white photograph of a winter scene. The line floral design was created by Patsy Sylvia. It was an interpretation of a tree of driftwood created by her daughter, Brenda Sylvia. These members of CBGC did an outstanding job with their designs.

A reception was held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Saturday, April 6th, for guests to meet the artists and the floral designers. Appetizers and drinks were served. Many members from the different garden clubs came out in support of their participating members. It was enjoyable admiring the art work and the interpretive floral designs. The community continues to be inspired by the local artists of the Northern Neck.
