Joan Clements of Heathsville passed away on January 19, 2019. When Joan retired, she was finally able to pursue her interest in gardening. Her flower garden overlooked the banks of the Great Wicomico River.

Joan became a Master Garden who could amaze people with her knowledge of plants. She could identify a plant both by its common and Latin names.

Joan was an active member of the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club for 22 years. She earned the Frances C. Biddlecomb “Spirit” Award in 2003 and served as CBGC president from 2011-2013. Club members could always go to Joan with any Horticulture questions or problems.

One of her greatest accomplishments was getting the Daffodil Garden planted in front of the school complex. Over 4,000 bulbs were planted to represent the children attending school in Northumberland County. Every spring the daffodils return to the delight of school children and adults.

The Chesapeake Bay Garden Club will surely miss Joan. Along with her vast knowledge of gardening skills, Joan brought smiles, kindness, and joy to CBGC.
